A single vineyard wine, the Nocio dei Boscarelli is the 'cru' of the estate and named after the ancient walnut tree that had originally been planted in the 3.5 ha vineyard. Produced from 100% Sangiovese, this is a wonderfully powerful and polished wine that exudes black cherries, exotic plums and spice. Ample and expansive, in five years this will be belting out Tosca. This wine will arrive in late October. This wine will arrive in late October.
The 2007 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Nocio dei Boscarelli opens with a blast of tar, smoke, licorice and leather. The Nocio is a big, powerful wine endowed with more than enough textural richness and sheer volume to handle its French and Slavonian oak. A round, harmonious finish adds to the wine's sheer sexiness and appeal. The Nocio is 100% Sangiovese. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.
The De Ferraris have owned and operated Poderi Boscarelli since 1962. Located in the Cervognano climat, they believe that this is the heart of soul of Montepulciano with the grandest terroir and best micro-climate capable of producing the most complex wines. The majority of its 15 hectares is planted with Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese) but they also have smaller plantings of Mammolo, Canaiolo, Colorino as well as a few international varieties. Like many excellent producers, they use painstaking methods to create the most natural wines, representing the true expression of their terroir. Today, the estate is run by brothers Luca and Nicolò.
