Sweet and smooth on the palate, this full-bodied wine offers lots of concentration and power with punchy fruit flavours and toasted spice. A lovely wine that gives more than expected. Not your typical Clos de Vougeot. Drink 2012 2024+.
(this and the Latricières are from the oldest vines of the Domaine and this wine comes from asuperbly situated 1 ha parcel of Clos de Vougeot high on the hill, next to Alfred Haegelen's parceladjoining the wall). This is ever-so-slightly riper with an equally broad ranging nose of underbrush, warm earth, red pinot, blue berry and rose petal notes trimmed in a bit of wood spice that precedes big, robust and sleekly muscled full-bodied flavors that possess ample structurein the context of the vintage, all wrapped in a serious, masculine and intensely long finish. Impressive. (91-93)/2018+
Resonant, rich and reverberant. Sweet and very cherry lively. So much better than most representative of this appellation…! Not to be drunk in a hurry though...Drink 2012 - 2020.
This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: Philippe Drouhin is ably assisted by son and daughter Nicolas and Caroline. First established in 1850, the domaine has major holdings in Gevrey Chambertin, as well as an impressive array of the Côte de Nuits’s grands crus, stretching from Gevrey down through Chambolle Musginy and into Vougeot. Recent investment at the domaine’s barrel hall will continue to drive quality at Drouhin Laroze. Their style falls somewhere between a modernist and a traditionalist. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.
Clos de Vougeot is a Grand Cru appellation situated in the heart of the Cote de Nuits producing only red wines from the Pinot Noir grape. The vines are enclosed within a single walled vineyard built by monks in the 12th and 14th Centuries. With 47.54 hectares under vine Clos de Vougeot is the largest Grand Cru vineyard in the Cote d'Or.
