Comment: "Dont miss!"A positively gorgeous nose of violets, spice, underbrush and hints of game and earth that complement to perfection the rich, full and classy full-bodied flavors that are fresh and sweet. This delivers absolutely superb complexity and length with a hint of mocha on the finale. Patience required. Drink: 2015+.
Domaine Bize is one of the most famous names in the Côte de Beaune and today, whilst continuing under the name of his father, the estate is run by his charmingly articulate son Patrick. Patrick claims his education in vine growing and wine making was not done at wine school but in the cellars of his father's friends whose names read like a who's who of wine; Henri Jayer, the Marquisd'Angerville, Aubert de Villaine of Romanée-Conti and so the list goes on... It is therefore nosurprise that in Patrick's wines one scents passion rather than the science of wine making.
Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
