Wonderfully feminine. Piero's 2004 is perfumed and notably attractive on the nose. On the palate,it is plush, plump and complex with layer-upon-layer of sweet, crunchy morello cherries, raspberries and subtle hints of Tuscan herbs and silky, ultra fine tannins. More Richebourg than Chambertin. Despite its curves, it has underlying power that leads this poised wine to an infinite finish.
The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is just as beautiful in bottle as it was in cask. This is a supremely layered, exquisite Brunello that flows onto the palate with tons of grace and class. Medium in body, the wine reveals gorgeous inner perfume framed by ripe, silky tannins that caress the fruit all the way to the close. The wine gains freshness and volume in the glass, exhibiting supreme beauty. Sweet scents of roses linger on the long, refined finish. Simply put, this is sublime juice. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Located southwest of Chianti, Montalcino came into its own in the late 1880s when local producer,Biondi-Santi, discovered a Sangiovese clone in his vineyard that was darker in colour than the rest. Its colour, however, was not its only attribute. It produced a wine with notable body, structure and length. He named it ‘brunello' meaning little dark one.This grape's genetic properties along with Montalcino's relatively temperate climate combine tocreate a wine stylistically different to that of more northerly Chianti. They are usually releasedapproximately 5 years after the vintage following 2 to 4 years ageing in wood. The denomination ofRiserva indicates a wine usually produced with more concentrated grapes than the traditional cuvéeand requires a minimum of one additional year of ageing.Today, Montalcino has become one of the most sought after appellations in the Tuscan region.
