Ch Lafite made one of the greatest wines of the vintage in 99 and Carruades has many of the same qualities of the Grand Vin. An outstanding second wine. 89/100
The 1999 Carruades de Lafite is made in the style of its bigger sibling. It reveals graphite, lead pencil, black currant, and cedary aromas, medium body, sweet glycerin, and a gorgeously expansive texture and palate. The wine is long and Lafite-like, and is unbelievably impressive. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
Made from 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot, it is a seductive, sweet effort, with low acidity as well as a ripe style. Full and rich, this classic wine is made in the Lafite-Rothschild style. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. Drink: 2001 - 2012.
Fullish colour. Quite substantial, but good ripe fruit on the nose. Medium-full colour. Good tannins. This is ripe and generous and has good acidity. Long finish at the end. Very good.Drink: 2008 - 2019
One peek into Château Lafite's cellar is like entering into the 18th century. Its cobweb-coveredchandeliers subtly light shadowy corridors that play host to hundreds of ancient vintages. Nothing could be more representative of its wine making philosophy - classic, stylish and yet powerful - characteristics that have made it one of the most collectible wines in the world.
Due south of St Estèphe lies the appellation of Pauillac, the king of Left Bank communes. It is home to three first growths as well as a plethora of other classified growths. Pauillac's renowned well-draining, gravelly soils enable its dominant grape Cabernet Sauvignon to reach fantastic heights of complexity and concentration. As a result, Pauilac's wines tend to be full-bodied with compact tannins and good freshness. Its aromatics are often what one associates with classic Bordeaux: pencil shavings, black currant and occasional mint. Some of the most famous châteaux of the commune are Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pichon Baron, Pichon Lalande and Lynch Bages.
