The wine press has been packed with articles and reviews of the 2009 Burgundies following the spate of tastings last week. Many of the producers we are lucky enough to work with have received favourable reviews and certain wines have been singled out for attention. We will be drawing your attention to various write ups over the next few days.
First up, the diligent team of Stephen Brook on the Côte d’Or and Margaret Rand on the Côte Chalonnaise & Mâconnais for Decanter.
Stephen comented, “This is a vintage that will give much pleasure over the next few years, and the top wines will age well. Is the hype fully justified? I think not. This is not a uniformly great vintage, but I may need to revise that view over the next few days, as more wines from more growers are tasted.”
He went on to David Roberts ‘This is a year when climate often overrides terroir. In a more difficult year such as 2008 the differences between the crus was striking. In 2009 the sheer ripeness of the grapes dominated.’ Three of our wines made into his wishlist – they are all highly sought after wines made in tiny quantities.
