Christmas Lunch in HK

Archive

The holiday season is now at our door step and what better way to celebrate than with a spot of lunch! The recipe for a successful gathering has always been good food, great company and amazing wines! I believe this is when the magic truly happens around a table…. And it did happen!

We met at a cosy, charming restaurant called On Lot 10 on Gough Street which serves great French food. A classic starter of Beef and Tomato terrine and Caesar Salad went with a bottle of Bienvenue Batard Montrachet Grand Cru, Louis Carillon 2005. Now, that is quite an exceptional bottle to have on a table! (thank you Tom!). It had a stunning, succulent nose of spiced honeycomb, lemon, tropical fruits with a slight floral hint. This was a really dense wine, carafing could have perhaps helped its development, but what a wine already! (I wondered how far this wine could go). Far reaching fruit and very long. Simply an amazing tour de force!

Main course, a little spring chicken… yes the whole chicken! To pair with this delicious dish a bottle of Guado al Tasso Antinori 1999…. Spectacular, slightly smoky, espresso, chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon! All the flavours and spices you want, it is like ginger bread melting in your mouth with sensational concentration and opulent texture!
