2012 Sesti Monteleccio in The Times

Archive

We have stocked the delicious wines of Sesti for over 20 years and we are delighted that their 2012 Monteleccio has made it on to Jane Macquitty’s ’50 best red wines for summer’ in The Times:

“Starry Sesti has popped up before in the Top 100 and remains one of my all-time favourite Tuscan wine producers. I adored this svelte, ripe, gamey, floral (lots of violets), bitter-cherry and dried cranberry-styled red and so will you.” Jane Maquitty, The Times, Saturday 18th July.

Located in the hills of Montalcino, the vineyards are in the enviable position of being on the southern slopes of Montalcino, where some of the most prestigious Brunello comes from. This IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) classified wine is made from the same grape of Brunello, Sangiovese; aged in medium size Solvenian oak barrels for 12 months. The wine’s name, Monteleccio, is an Italian version of the Latin name “Montalcino,” meaning “hill of the holm oaks.”

The maestro behind the estates success is Giuseppe Maria “Giugi” Sesti. Assisted by his daughter Elisa, he has established an impressive international reputation in the world of wine. Giugi, having studied astronomy (and written many books on the subject), ensures many of the winemaking processes follow the lunar cycle.

They produce some of the most sumptuous wines made from the Sangiovese grape variety. Giving delicious flavours of ripe juicy berry fruit with a spice and cherry aftertaste.
