After visiting Napa and Sonoma last month and now being back in Burgundy tasting the 2016s, the life of an ageing wine merchant couldn’t be much better. The weather has been glorious, but of more importance is that throughout the Côte d’Or we are greeted by happy winemakers. 2016 might be a tiny vintage but the quality is good to very good. Every en primeur campaign there is a wine that stands out for its quality and outstanding value. In 2016 we believe Ch Capbern is that wine. St Estèphe is undoubtedly one of the most successful appellations in 2016 and Capbern simply excelled in this vintage. Released today at £170 per 12, we simply cannot recommend it more highly.
