The Dezats have parcels scattered around the village of Verdigny in the heart of the appellation, and they have a long tradition of producing one single blend from them all. Their 2017 has a pale lemon colour and a lightly floral orange blossom scent with a twist of fresh citrus. The palate has a refreshing chalky texture and shows the vintage’s attractive ripeness with Sancerre’s classical crisp freshness.
The picturesque town of Sancerre perches atop a hill on the left bank of the Loire with vineyards planted on limestone and clay hillsides. A total of 14 villages and 3 hamlets have the rights to produce Sancerre, and, due to the increasing popularity of the wine, the area under vine trebled in the last quarter of the 20th century. Often considered the classic home of Sauvignon Blanc, good Sancerre is crisp, elegant and aromatic, and among the finest and most complex Sauvignons in the world. Delicate reds and roses are also made from Pinot Noir.
