    The Pinsons are fortunate enough to own a sizable chunk of this grand cru, and it is the flagship wine of the estate. It is fermented and aged in oak, with the 20% new oak used during fermentation giving the wine a subtle richness. It is floral, intense, rich but bright, and full of energy. The palate displays a graceful power and it finishes with a long and intense persistence.

    The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is another gorgeous wine from Pinson. Shades of apricot, tangerine, floral-infused honey and mint add shades of dimension to a Clos that speaks to the essence of this famed Grand Cru. Aromatically explosive and wonderfully deep, the 2017 is so expressive and so inviting today. Time in the glass just brings out the wine's depth and layers. As good as the 2017 is now, my feeling is that it is still recovering from its bottling, about five months before this tasting. Drink 2022-2032

    Aromatically, this is restrained to the point of being almost mute with its airy and cool array of floral, spice, iodine, ocean breeze and soft wood nuances. There is even better size, weight and richness to the evidently concentrated big-bodied flavors that possess a sleek and refined mouth feel before concluding in a youthfully austere and sneaky long finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate.     This is the less wooded of the two Les Clos bottlings from the Pinsons, but it's still quite a rich, powerful style. It's dense and complex, with notes of baking spices, subtle stone fruit and a saline, minerally flourish. Drinking Window 2020 - 2028

    Slightly fuller yellow. The nose is not ready to show yet. But the weight of fruit on the palate, carries the oak well though you can see it, but the harmony between the two is there. A certain sucrosity of maturity, the texture is high class and the acidity leaps up behind. This is clearly grand cru material! 4 stars.

Chablis

Chablis is world famous for its fine white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.
