
André & Michel Quenard - The Fat Duck or Bust
Brothers André and Michel Quénard make some of the most delicious white wines in all of France. Their 15-acre domaine lies in the heart of Savoie in Chignin, a quaint village 15 km southeast of Chambéry. Chignin is not just picturesque. It also has some of the best terroir in the region. The Quénards' savoir faire combined with this beneficial microclimate produce delightful, thirst quenching wines that go far beyond the insipid, acidic concoctions found on most slopes. Their wines are soulful and racy. They are the real deal.
Unlike the glitzy mountainous ski resorts, Savoie's vineyards are located at lower altitudes on well-draining, mineral-rich hillsides. It is this special combination of vibrant sunshine, warm days and cool evenings that produce exemplary wines of the utmost freshness with beautiful aromatics and a lacy texture. Their deliciousness has even caught the attention of The Fat Duck restaurant who list two of their wines - not too shabby for a 'mere' Savoie estate.
They produce several different varieties, including crisp and fresh Jacquère, a perfect accompaniment to fondue, raclette and lighter seafood or fish, as well as Roussanne, a richer, spicier wine that would beautifully complement poultry, richer seafood or pork.
