- Quite subtle on the nose, this wine opens up on the palate with red currant and bramble fruit flavours. Wonderful freshness that is further enlivened by a soft salty tang. Made from 75% village wine and 25% premier cru.

- Moderate reduction makes the nose difficult to evaluate but the moderately rustic and full-bodied flavors are frank, rich and direct, underpinned by rugged if not aggressive tannins on the supple but admirably dense finish. This is complex and the material is impressive enough though like the Valozières, this won't win any prizes for elegance. (87-90)/2012+

- Deep colour with supple, seductive fruit, fine oak and very good length, this is a serious wine, equal to many domaines' Premier Crus.
Volnay
A red wine appellation only, wines from Volnay might be considered the most revered of southern Burgundy. They have been celebrated since the 18th century for their delicacy. But they are not fruit forward like those of Beaune or Chorey Lès Beaune nor have the brooding structure of Pommard. Instead, they have superb linearity, focus and poise while sheathed in velvety tannin. This slightly reticent personality comes out even more with a bit of age, though some can be approached very young. There are no grand cru vineyards, but there are some excellent premier cru examples including Volnay Les Champans and Volnay Les Caillerets. Chardonnay grown in the shared Santenots vineyard must be labelled as Meursault.
Maison Nicolas Potel
Nicolas grew up amongst the vineyards of Domaine de la Pousse d'Or where his father was winemaker and part owner for years. Unfortunately, Burgundy vineyards cost more than gold, so when Nicolas decided to set out on his own, he realised that the only feasible way would be to buy grapes from other producers and work as a négociant. He differs from others in the region in that most of his grapes now come from only 8 domaines that he manages himself. As a result, he is able to grow the grapes according to his specifications. Being a perfectionist, his parameters include organic farming methods as well as notably small yields.
Pinot Noir
Undeniably capricious, Pinot Noir is known as one of most difficult varieties to grow. Its wines tend to be light in colour and only moderately structured, but can also be highly aromatic and profoundly sensual. When young, they often display fresh raspberry, cherry and/or blackberry flavours, and with a bit of age can develop into the most complex and enthralling wines imaginable. Although it is found in various parts of the world such as California, New Zealand and South Africa, its best results come from the core of Burgundy where it flourishes in its cool climate and predominantly limestone-rich soils and in the exquisite Blanc de Noirs of Champagne.
