Tasting Notes

Goedhuis, Sept 2010
taster image
A beautiful, finesse-driven Chablis that is fresh, mineral and floral notes that is crunchy and lacy on the palate. Despite its femininity, Pommier’s 2008s are some of the most complex and tightly wound they have made.
Burghound, Oct 2010, Score: 92

An almost invisible hint of SO2 does not materially detract from the intensely citrus-suffused nose of ocean breeze and iodine, both of which can also be found on the detailed, racy and distinctly cool flavors where the citrus influence resurfaces on the stony, palate staining and bone dry finish. Excellent.

Chablis

Chablis is world famous for its white wines produced from the Chardonnay grape. The best vineyards are perched above the winding Serein river and are south or southwest facing ensuring better ripeness in this cooler climate. It has four appellation levels. Petit Chablis is the most modest and simple followed by Chablis, which is the largest and most prominent. Premier cru Chablis is the third largest appellation and encompasses almost 40 different climats or vineyards including the famed Montée de Tonnerre, Fourchaumes and Mont de Milieu. The most noble of all Chablis are the grand crus of which there are 7 climats in total Bougros, Les Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchot. The wines of Chablis have remained some of the best value in the world, particularly their superb grand crus which can easily cost 50% less than its closest revered white grand cru neighbour, Corton Charlemagne.

Chardonnay

Undoubtedly the world's most popular white wine grape, Chardonnay is most famous for creating the majority of white Burgundies. It is known for taking on the personality of the climate and soil as well as the style in which it is made. This versatility enables it to wear many masks including still wines from all over the world to sparkling wines in Champagne. It creates crisp, clean, mineral-driven wines in Chablis, exemplary, sumptuous wines in the Cote de Beaune, and palate-filling fruit-bombs, both oaked and otherwise, throughout the New World.
