Drinking dates: 2010 - 2018
Tasting Notes
- Goedhuis, April 2003

- Ch Langoa Barton always has enormous appeal when young, often more so than its stable mate. The 2002 is delicious. Velvet textured, with firm, ripe fruit and deeply seductive vanilla oak flavours, this is certainly one of our favourites.
- Goedhuis, February 2008

- A more masculine styled Langoa, the 2002 displays an alluring nose of rich red cherry, blackberry and clove spice. Its palate is firm and dense with superfine tannins and a notable mineral finish. A very 'Pauillac' St Julien. This will require a few more years in the cellar, but will emerge wonderfully savoury and velvety.
- Robert Parker, April 2005, Score: 90

- Wine Advocate #158 (Apr 2005) Drink: 2012-2022 The saturated ruby/plum-tinged 2002 reveals a tight but promising nose of underbrush, new saddle leather, damp earth, black currants and cherries. It is a strongly structured, potent effort with medium to full body, and impressive purity, but loads of tannin presented in a frightfully backward style. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. I seem to consistently underrate this wine when it is young.

- Superfresh and aromatic, with violet, berry and mineral. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish.
St Julien
St Julien is like the middle child of the Médoc - not as assertive as Pauillac or as coquettish as Margaux. It lies firmly between the two more outspoken communes and as a result produces a blend of them both. Its wines have often been sought out by aficionados for their balance and consistency, particularly in the UK. Yet due to its middle child nature, it can occasionally be overlooked globally and as a result underrated by those markets outside the UK. Despite the fact that it has no first growths, it has several second growths including Léoville Las Cases, Léoville Barton, Léoville Poyferré and Ducru Beaucaillou as well as the celebrated châteaux such as Talbot and Beychevelle.
Château Langoa Barton
This château is owned by the Barton family (with Léoville Barton). Serving as a home and a wine cellar, Langoa took its name from "gué" an old French word for the small stream that flows at the southern end of the property. Unlike the classical style of its stable mate, Langoa tends to be more approachable and flattering at a young age with fleshy fruit and textured tannins.
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc
One of the most widely-found blends used throughout the Bordeaux region - including such legendary wines as Chateaux Haut-Brion, Cos d'Estournel, Ducru Beaucaillou and Leoville-Barton. At it's best this potentially perfect combination balances depth of flavour, ripe richness and taut tannic structure and length. It also produces some of the finest red wines from the Napa Valley in California and Stellenbosch in South Africa.
