This Premier Cru vineyard borders Chassagne Montrachet and the vines have the deep-rooted structure of its more famous neighbour. Impressive in style, this wine benefits from Bruno’s judicious use of barrel élevage of just 10 months and approximately 20% new oak. Whilst a little reserved in scent, the flavours are enticing, combining lemon zest and freshly buttered toast. This is taut on the finish, with excellent length.

Producer

Domaine Bruno Colin

Bruno’s estate is spread across an impressive 30+ different parcels in Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny Montrachet and St Aubin. From 2016 onwards, his portfolio includes Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Desmoiselles and Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru, passed down to him by his father, Michel, who has stepped into retirement (Michel Colin-Deleger’s estate was divided between his two sons, Bruno and Philippe). Bruno’s style blends Burgundy's tell-tale minerality with luxuriant fruit. The wines tend to display generous concentration with vibrant drive. Many have the potential to age beautifully but Bruno’s wines are also notable for their open approachability in youth. His wide range of Chassagne Montrachet premiers crus captures the diverse expression of the appellation.

Region

Saint Aubin

Due west of Puligny and Chassagne lies the little, picturesque village of St. Aubin. With the neighbouring village of Gamay, it produces 2/3 white wine and 1/3 red wine over 230 hectares of vines of which over 3/4 are premier cru. It was one of the last appellations created in only 1970 but has since created an excellent reputation for good value well made Burgundy that can replicatePuligny. Some of the most expressive vineyards are En Remilly and Les Murgers des Dents de Chien.
