Goedhuis, December 2023
This is a fine vineyard, with its 60-year-old vines sitting just below Premier Cru Champeaux on the northern edge of the village. The fruit ripened later at this vineyard in 2022, so it was a little shyer and more backward aromatically than some of the other cuvées in the cellar. On the palate, it has structure and a more brooding power than the Dix Climats cuvée, with spice, liquorice and dark berry characters. Full and persistent.

Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 88-90
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs includes 31% whole bunches (exactly). This shows a bit of reduction on the nose at the moment, more black fruit than the Clos de Combes with just a little warmth. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins. There’s quite fleshy black fruit here with gentle grip, though it needs a tad more tension to come through on the finish. Solid.Drinking Window: 2025-2035.

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
