  • Goedhuis, December 2023

Four hectares of village Gevrey Chambertin in ten different locations is a sizeable parcel and, as a result, this cuvée is a superb example of this famous Côte de Nuits appellation. With 30% whole bunch, there is a perfumed aroma of alpine strawberry and nutmeg. Relaxed but strikingly sweet bramble fruit flavours, with gently powdery tannins and a harmonious finish. A little beauty at the village level.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 87-89

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin "Dix Climats," which included 25% whole bunches, offers crushed strawberry and redcurrant fruit on the nose - quite floral with hints of lavender and incense. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine depth and acidity, and a pinch of black pepper towards the finish. This should be ready to go after a couple of years in bottle. Fine. Drinking Window: 2025-2035.

  • Burghound, January 2024, Score: 88-91

Ripe aromas of plum, dark cherry and a distinct earth character gives way to solidly concentrated and voluminous flavors that manage to be at once caressing and punchy, all wrapped in a youthfully austere and lingering finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Drinking 2029+.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2023, Score: 90-91

Mid crimson purple. The nose is quite discreet, though a mix of strawberry and raspberry fruit then starts to sing out on the palate, along with a little vanilla from the oak. 25% whole bunches adds a little bit of zest. Drink from 2027-2033.

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. Region

Gevrey Chambertin

The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
