Goedhuis, December 2023
Considered amongst the elite of Premiers Crus in Gevrey this is another higher positioned vineyard, some 300 metres above sea level. Erwan Faiveley quotes “if Lavaux is Bèze, this is Chambertin”, facing east in the same direction as all the great Grands Crus. They were lucky to have a wine in 2022 as the June storms eroded so much of the land in this appellation, but whilst the domaine lost a wall from the flooding their vines were protected and eventually relished in its healthy water table for the rest of the summer. A tight and linear style, with spring like tension and energetic, crunchy red fruits. Classy.

Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 91-93
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has more presence than the Lavaux Saint-Jacques, yet there remains something introverted about this cuvée; it’s a bit stoic at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. It’s a little richer than the Lavaux, with more backbone, raspberry and wild strawberry laced with white pepper and clove, leading to a satisfying, cohesive finish. Enjoy over the next 12 to 15 years. Drinking Window: 2025-2040.

Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
