Goedhuis, December 2023
The name Craipillots is a reference to the stony soils in the vineyard, which surely have an influence on the very mineral nature of this wine. Aromatically open, with rich smoky dark fruit and liquorice. Controlled on the palate, the tight limestone core gives a sense of refined austerity. Alive and fresh on the finish, its overall vigour suggests a quality Premier Cru for the future.

Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 90-92
Blended with 30% whole bunches, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Craipillot 1er Cru is a step up in complexity from the Village Crus with bright red fruit laced with sous-bois and clove. The medium-bodied palate offers fleshy, ripe red fruit, gentle grip, and slightly chalky tannins towards the finish, suggesting that it will require 2-3 years in bottle. Drinking Window: 2026-2038.

Burghound, January 2024, Score: 89-91
A spicier nose freely offers up its notes of violet, earth and blend of red and dark currant. The pliant, caressing and generous medium weight flavors tighten up on the youthfully austere, dusty and sneaky long finish that is firm enough to repay mid-term keeping.Drinking 2029+.

Jasper Morris MW, November 2023, Score: 91-93
Quite a deep soil on flat ground in the path of the combe. A bright mid crimson purple. The nose has more density of raspberry-strawberry fruit than Au Closeau. Lively, juicy, in your face with no great length, but attractive. Drink from 2029-2035.

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
Region
Gevrey Chambertin
The greatest village in terms of notable grand cru vineyards, Gevrey Chambertin has no less than 9 of them including its most famous Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, and includes a premier cru vineyard that many people deem grand cru in quality - Clos St. Jacques. It encompasses approximately 400 hectares under vine also making it the largest top quality vineyard area in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin has many followers who seek out its deeply coloured, robust and textured wines. They are often firmer than the neighbouring appellations of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée and can take several years to soften once released. Due to its size and reputation, the list of excellent producers is noteworthy and many are worth seeking out.
