  • Goedhuis, December 2023

From three separate parcels of vines within Chambolle, this wine is so inviting on the palate. Vibrant fresh red berry fruit purity encapsulates the advantages of their early picking. The tannins give a very complete linear tension, with a juicy sweetness on the finish.

  • Neal Martin, January 2024, Score: 88-90

The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Village is a slightly different blend after a plot exchange with Felettig, so this comes from Beaux Bruns and Combottes. The focused bouquet is initially understated, opening nicely with sous-bois and orange rind aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. Classic and "cool" in style, you'd imagine this comes from a less warm growing season. It will give a decade's worth of drinking happiness. Drinking Window: 2026-2036.

  • Burghound, January 2024, Score: 89-92

Elegant, airy and very pretty aromas include those of red cherry, raspberry and lovely floral hints. The lilting, refined and utterly delicious middleweight flavours possess the classic lace and grace mouthfeel while delivering fine length on the mineral-driven and youthfully austere finale. This is an excellent Chambolle villages. Drinking 2028+.

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2023, Score: 90-92

Derriere le Four has been swapped in favour of some Aux Combottes, combined with Chardennes and Beaux Bruns as before. A lively pink crimson, with a very pretty perfumed floral nose that has recently shed a reductive character. Pretty red fruits alongside, with a nice mix of oak, fruit and just enough acidity to finish. Drink from 2028-2033.

Louis is the seventh generation of vignerons in Burgundy from a family who is mostly known for their Côte de Beaune wines such as Pommard and Volnay however, several Côte de Nuits appellations including Gevrey Chambertin were added to the repertoire in 1978. Many of these are parcels of extremely old vines, and the wines have a natural concentration and silky persistence. Today Louis vinifies and ages his wines in Chambolle Musigny in the same cellar as his other half, Ghislaine Barthod. In fact, it has been said that his influences have helped create the celestial beauties that have risen from her vineyards. Both are ably assisted by their son, Clément. He has been instrumental in Louis Boillot’s recent purchase of vineyards in Beaujolais, Moulin à Vent, where these skilled Burgundians bring their expertise to the Gamay grape.Read less

Region

Chambolle Musigny

The wines of Chambolle Musigny are like no other. They can be superbly delicate, yet mindblowingly complex. Of all the northern Burgundy appellations, they are the most ethereal, and as a result the most feminine. Most of the Chambolle Musigny vineyard area is encompassed in its Village and Premier Cru appellations including the robust Beaux Bruns, the splendidly mineral Le Cras and the poised yet powerful Les Amoureuses. It produces only two Grand Crus - the round and rich Bonnes Mares which it shares with Morey St. Dénis, as well as what could be described as the Stradivarius of grand crus, Musigny.
