    The 2022 Mauvesin Barton was picked 13 September to 15 October and aged in one-third new oak. It is initially quite backward on the nose and demands encouragement, revealing blackberry, chimney soot and tobacco scents with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, the cedar-infused black fruit tinged with white pepper and pencil shaving. Composed, nothing over-ambitious, yet long and tender on the finish. It is one of the best vintages that I have tasted from this estate that is owned by the Barton-Sartorius family. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Drink 2027-2042

    The 2022 Mauvesin Barton is a joy to taste today. Plump, juicy and forward, the 2022 is marvelously seductive right out of the gate. Expressive floral and spice notes lend complexity to the sweet red cherry/plum fruit. Soft, caressing contours add a gorgeous sense of immediacy. Drink 2025-2030

    Damien Barton explained that the slightly cooler position of this Moulis property was a great advantage in 2022, allowing its vines to cope with the warmer conditions. Brilliant deep indigo colour, it has a brilliant radiance of ripe but fresh fruits. A combination of damsons and crushed sweet redcurrants. On the palate the easy balance between bright energetic freshness and ripe volume of warm fruits gives it a mouthwatering vitality and dynamism. A long and rewarding finish with flavours of bitter chocolate and oriental spice.

    Seriously deep colour, and plenty of perfume, heather, blackberry and crushed roses, this is really an impressive Mauvesin this is one that I think will surprise many people. More accessible than many because it keep freshness and juice running through it, but has the depth and concentration of the vintage. One to look out for.

    The 2022 Château Mauvesin Barton is terrific, with a ripe, medium-bodied, elegant profile as well as impressive cassis and currant-like fruit, some tobacco and graphite aromatics, fine tannins, and a great finish. It’s a brilliant Moulis in the making.

    Château Mauvesin Barton (Moulis-en-Médoc) This is a somewhat more structured wine than one would expect from Mauvesin, yet it is undoubtedly in balance, and it will also outlive all other vintages of this wine. Darker and slightly more sour and crisp on the finish, the tannins are active and boisterous, and they are, thankfully, under the control of the blackberry and hedgerow fruit found on the nose. This is a jolly good effort.
