Jasper Morris MW, November 2023, Score: 87
Bottled in April with the 2021 reds. Attractive pale colour, Fresh plum and greengage, with some volume. On the leaner side but with length and now some slightly fatter fruit appears. All in tank for the freshness. Drink from 2024-2027.

WK, January 2024, Score: 86
Cathiard's sole white wine is the 2022 Bourgogne Aligoté, made from comparatively young vines in the Hautes-Côtes. It's fermented and matured in tank and sees a short élevage, with bottling the following spring. Medium-bodied, open-knit but tangy, it's evocative of pear, struck match, powdered sugar and fresh herbs.Drink 2023-2027.

Sylvain Cathiard is one of the top growers in Vosne Romanée, a region not shy of exceptional talent. He only has around 4.25 hectares of vines, therefore the quantity that he makes is particularly small. Traditionally, Burgundy domaines are renowned for being minute in size, and he is definitely amongst the smallest. In addition, he has some of the most exceptional vineyards, which read like a Who's Who list of the Côte de Nuits, many of which are located next to grand crus sites. This combination is lethal for allocations. Too little wine with too many open hands all waiting for their fair share. SInce 2011 his talented son, Sébastien, has been running the domaine.Read less
Region
Bourgogne Aligoté
Regional appellation for white wines made exclusively from the Aligote grape. Unlike Chardonnay these are best drunk young, with fresh notes of green apple and citrus fruit. The best wines tend to come from the Cote Chalonnaise around Bouzeron. This is the classic wine used in making Kir with Creme de Cassis from up the road in Dijon.
