Goedhuis, January 2023
Brothers Jean-Michel François Vache make some of the most delicious Gigondas and Vacqueryas wines we know from their 20 hectares of vines. This cuvée sees no oak as Jean-Michel and Fréderic prefer to vinifiy and mature in stainless steel and concrete tanks so as not to mask the fruit and terroir. Attractive blueberry, cherry and blackberry are accented with black olive, lavender and delicate incense notes. The palate is beautifully fresh, the delicious, crystalline wild forest fruits framed by the juicy tannins. Finishes long and lifted.

Region
Vacqueyras
Vacqueyras is one of the newest appellations to emerge from the southern Rhône, moving up from Côtes du Rhône Villages in 1990. As a result, it also is one of the least known. Stylistically, its wines are rich and plump with more complexity and concentration than Côtes du Rhônes, but perhaps slightly less concentration than its neighbouring appellation, Gigondas. Like most things, though, this depends on the producer and vintage. Vacqueyras is made all three colours - red, white and rosé, mostly from 4 varieties - Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan though the red is by far the most dominant. Due to its lesser known reputation, these wines often offer excellent value for money.
