  • Neal Martin, November 2022, Score: 93-95

The 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is very pure and perfumed, macerated red cherries, wild strawberry, kirsch and rose petal scents, an underlying mineralité that will become more conspicuous with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite firm tannins (more like a Mazis?) leading to a sapid, slightly peppery finish that lingers. Needs to knit together but great potential. Drink 2025-2042

  • Jasper Morris MW, November 2022, Score: 93-95

A luxurious purple colour. The bouquet is very classy, much fuller deep raspberry notes, and suggesting a touch of velvet to follow. Dark fruit with some fresher redder points popping up, good acidity but no shortage of fruit to cover it. Very good. Drink from 2027-2035.

Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less

Chapelle Chambertin

One of the nine Grand Crus vineyards within the Gevrey Chambertin area. Chapelle-Chambertin's vineyards are on gentle slopes, sheltered from the elements by woods to the north. The thin rocky soil forces the vines to work hard. The exceptional wines produced in Chapelle-Chambertin are complex, powerful and incredibly long-lasting.
