  • Goedhuis, August 2021

A Spatlese of such power and purity. Ripe and mouth-watering, it is defined by its potent yet precise flavours of lime, lemon, red apple and stone fruits. This is a brilliantly sculpted Riesling, framed by a sleek, racy acidity and intense mineral core, the perfect foil to the rich tangy fruit. The finish is fresh, juicy and incredibly long.

  • James Suckling, August 2021, Score: 99

Very cool and reserved at the front, but this is an enormously deep and complex wine that has staggering mineral intensity. The lime and oolong-tea freshness effortlessly swallows up the unfermented grape sweetness, as if it didn’t really exist. Some will criticize, saying that this is too radical, but that’s what creates the great excitement! The herbal freshness at the finish is really astounding. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.

Region

Rheingau

Like most of the other great German wine regions, the Rheingau has some gloriously steep slopes some plunging impressively towards the Rhine. Though it is located next to the Nahe, it often achieves even greater ripeness and as a result can turn out richer, more heady wines. This ripeness has enabled this region to produce both sweet and dry versions with equal success.
