  • Goedhuis, December 2021

The core of Vincent’s Corton Charlemagne comes from the most central location of the hillside. His vineyards are of mixed age, 30% of vines under 30 years old, 30% from 30-year-old vines and 40% from vines between 40-60 years old. This proves a perfect combination. Lemon yellow in colour, with generous ripe fruit, and flavours of apricot and nectarine. Whilst rich it is not in excess; the nutty undertones and light acidity keep everything in check. This is a superb Grand Cru.

  • Jasper Morris MW, January 2022, Score: 94-96

Fine bright lemon and lime colour. The nose is rather toastier, doubtless the barrel speaking, but in an attractive form. A faint reduction. An excellent solid volume here, with density and the vivacious stones which it should have. All the component parts are there in classical balance and this 2020 Corton-Charlemagne is properly persistent.

Domaine Rapet Pere et Fils can trace its history back as far as 1765. The Estate comprises 18 hectares of vines in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses, Savigny les Beaune, Aloxe Corton and Beaune. Located between Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, the Pernand Vergelesses vineyard, tucked away in the green surroundings of a quiet valley, begins at the foot of Corton hill. It is the only vineyard to offer the whole range of vintages, in both white and red wines. Ageing of both red and white wines occurs in oak barrels (30% new for white and 20% new for red). All winery processes are undertaken to minimise the handling of the grapes.Read less

Corton Charlemagne

As legend goes, Charlemagne, king of the Franks, ordered Chardonnay planted in the vineyard of Corton during his reign in the 8th century so as he would not stain his light-coloured beard during moments of great thirst. This may be mere romantic fallacy, but what cannot be denied is the exceptional quality of this Grand Cru appellation in Aloxe Corton in the Cote de Beaune.
