  • Goedhuis, April 2022

A beautiful representation of the village of Verduno that displays a supremely sexy nose! Juicy blood orange, pomegranate and dark red cherry mingle with fresh rose and mineral notes. The gentle roll of ripe, silky fruit tannins that unfurl on the palate are matched by a lively freshness and support the weight of the detailed, juicy fruit. Impeccable balance.

  • Antonio Galloni, November 21, Score: 88-90

The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Verduno is aromatic, delicate and super-expressive. Bright red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and dried herbs open with a bit of coaxing. The 2018 offers a lovey combination of fruitiness and mid-weight Verduno structure. Drinking window: 2023 - 2030.

  • Jancis Robinson, November 21, Score: 17

Youthful mid ruby. Lifted, fresh cherry fruit with dark earth notes and a fine layer of spice. Very elegant and fine on the palate, almost ephemeral. Notes of amarena cherry with fine, long bitter-sweet powdery tannins. Super-elegant and pretty and ready now. Highly recommended for those seeking elegance over power. Drink 2022-2028.

In the small medieval village of Verduno lies the historic Fratelli Alessandria cellar. The family has tended vines in the region since the beginning of the 19th century and today their 12 hectares stretch over some of the best crus in Verduno and also Monforte. This is a true family affair, Gian Battista Alessandria and his wife Flavia tend to the vines while his brother Alessandro and his son Vittore are in the winery. Together, they craft high-quality artisanal wines from the Nebbiolo grape variety but also from some Dolcetto, Barbera and the little-known Pelaverga variety. The Barolos from the village of Verduno are highly distinct and can be lighter, lacier and more elegant than those from other villages.Read less

Region

Piedmont

Piedmont is located in the north western corner of Italy. Though several grape varieties are prominent such as Dolcetto, Barbera and Moscato, it is Nebbiolo that reigns supreme. It produces wines that are not particularly deep in colour, yet they are perfumed, powerful and can age for many years. Due to the ethereal nature of the Nebbiolo grape and the numerous single vineyard wines, many compare top examples to grand cru Burgundies of the Côte de Nuits.Mountainous, its vineyards are cut into the hillsides forming terraces reminiscent of the Mosel Valley in Germany and the northern Rhone Valley in France. The two most notable appellations are Barolo and Barbaresco.
