Goedhuis, December 2017
The only sadness about this truly sensational wine is that yields were 40% down. From one of the very best parcels at the top of the Clos, just by the castle, it is full of brightness and excitement. With vibrant cherry fruit aromas, this wine is totally at ease with itself. Wonderfully composed, with an abundance of fruit, subtle grainy tannic depth, power, drive and great length. Quite simply fantastic.

Neal Martin, December 2017, Score: 91-93
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru includes 35% whole bunch fruit (the first time ever) and was cropped at just 25 hectoliters per hectare because of frost damage. It has an attractive bouquet with copious dark cherry, blackberry and crushed flowers. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin, quite a masculine Clos Vougeot with a good backbone on the somewhat foursquare finish that just cuts away a little swiftly. This might be one cuvée where I prefer the 2015 to this year's counterpart. Drink 2021-2038

Burghound, January 2018, Score: 92-94
An overtly floral nose enjoys added breadth in the form of earthy black cherry and currant aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. Like the Bonnes Mares and Chapelle, the medium weight plus flavors are seductive while displaying excellent intensity on the driving finish that flashes the hallmark austerity of a young Clos de Vougeot. This promising effort will require at least some restraint. Drink: 2028+

They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less
