  • Goedhuis, April 2016, Score: 91-93

Deep ruby colour. On the nose there is an explosion of ripe loganberry and dark fruit aromas. This abundance of sweet ripe fruits carries through into the palate, without a feeling of excess. The texture is one of mouth-coating volume, with deliciously subtle silky tannins. A beautifully harmonious wine, with an appealing line of freshness on the finish. This is a beautiful example of Cru Bourgeois quality and value at its very best.

  • Neal Martin, October 2017, Score: 86/100

Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois annual tasting, the 2015 Paveil-de-Luze felt a little volatile on the nose when I tasted it, touches of mulberry and mulch developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, moderate depth, classic in style and cleaner on the palate than on the nose. Hopefully it will gain more class during its bottle aging but at the moment, it needs to learn a few manners. Tasted September 2017. Neal Martin Score 86/100 Drink Dates 2018 - 2027

  • James Suckling, April 2016, Score: 92-93

Wonderful fruit and brightness to this this Margaux. Full and silky textured. Flavorful finish.

  • Jancis Robinson, April 2016, Score: 16

A Stéphane Derenoncourt wine. Very perfumed and rich. Round and flattering, with masses of ripe fruit. So great to see Margaux triumphing..! Just a bit dry on the end. Drink 2023-2033

  • Wine Spectator, April 2016, Score: 87-90

Lively, with damson plum and raspberry coulis notes inlaid with rooibos tea and licorice accents. Gains some flesh through the finish, but stays pretty direct.

Producer

Château Paveil de Luze

Château Paveil de Luze is a small property located on deep, well-drained gravel soils which are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. A charmer, its polished wines mature early and are an excellent choice for the impatient drinker.

Region

Margaux

Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
