  • Goedhuis, May 2016

Lovely juicy aromas of damsons and sloes. This is a hugely layered wine, with the initial volume and breadth of fruit, flowing through into layers of spice and masculinity. A wine which really excites the palate and its long persistent finish, is strong proof to the quality of this fine Cote de Beaune Grand Cru.

  • Neal Martin, December 2015, Score: 92-94

The 2014 Corton Bressandes Grand Cru has a far more generous and giving bouquet than the 2014 Cuvée de Bourdon . It offers lush red cherries and raspberry preserve aromas, dried orange peel, menthol...like a Corton Clos du Roi in some ways. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe red berry fruit and cracked black pepper, very saline in the mouth with impressive depth and structure on the finish. It starts closing up in the glass, but I think this will ultimately turn out to be an excellent, delicious and quite cerebral Corton Bressandes. Drink 2020-2040

  • Burghound, January 2016, Score: 91-94

A slightly riper nose features notes of black cherry, earth and sauvage characters. I very much like the mouth feel of the sleek middle weight plus flavors that are shaped by finer if even firmer tannins on the impressively complex and persistent finish. This well-balanced effort is a classic Bressandes of refinement but make no mistake the structure makes clear that this is built-to-age and is going to need plenty of it. Sweet Spot 91-94. Domaine Ponsot is an atypical but outstanding domaine in Morey St Denis. Their combination of late picking, destemming, and ageing in old oak barrels achieve the domaine’s distinctive style of long-lived wines. Laurent Ponsot left the domaine in 2017, and the estate is now run by his sister, Rose Marie Ponsot. Alexandre Abel has joined the team as régisseur, and together they continue to uphold these three principles of the estate. Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. As Alexandre says “we want our wines to taste the maximum of the true fruit and terroir flavours that nature provides us with".Read less

Corton

The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
