  • Goedhuis, December 2014

Clos de Vougeot should have a feeling of brooding power and this excellent example really shows that masculine air which has made this Grand Cru so famous. With sweet dark wild forest fruits, this has broad weighted shoulders. One can really feel the weight and texture; it is extremely layered, with a rounded tannic depth and lively sweet finish. A wine which has excellent aging potential.

  • Burghound, January 2015, Score: 92-95

(50+ year old vines located in the lower section of the Clos). A relatively expressive nose proposes a well-layered mix of plum, essence of cherry and pungent earth scents. The textured, concentrated and powerful large-scaled flavors possess remarkable density on the mid-palate thanks to the abundant dry extract that buffers the very firm tannic spine and slightly softens the austere and serious but not hard finale. As good as the 1ers in the range are there is simply another dimension of depth present here. In sum this is terrific but patience will definitely be required. Drink 2028+

  • Sarah Marsh, November 2014, Score: 19.15

Quite a sumptuous aroma. Sweet and seductive attack. Juicy, full and really rather sensual. Then it batons down and becomes more grippy and full. Sensitive handling of this difficult terroir. The fruit softens the broad architecture. A structural wine, which needs time. Score 19.15 From 2023

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less
