Producer

Inglenook

Inglenook, founded in 1871 by William Watson, George Yount of Yountville’s son-in-law, was always one of the most respected names from Napa’s great Rutherford vineyards. However, despite this extraordinary history and reputation, it is possibly the last 40 years that have been most exciting, firstly for the vineyard and, more recently, for the brand name Inglenook Rubicon. This part of the story starts in 1975 when Francis Ford Coppola bought the house and a section of the vineyards, with some of the proceeds from The Godfather. Over the following 20 years, he bought the remaining vineyards and estate. He has since made major long-term investment in both the vineyards and winery, and Inglenook once again sits at the top of the Californian hierarchy. Initially he sold his wines under the Niebaum-Coppola name, but in 2011 he was finally able to purchase back the name Inglenook, and so it was that a Californian icon was reborn under the name Inglenook Rubicon.

Region

Napa Valley

This small town north of San Francisco has grown up to be one of California’s most famous wine regions. It is home to opulent Cabernets and sweetly-spiced Zinfandels, grown across many sub-regions including Stags Leap, Rutherford, Oakville and others. Cooling ocean fogs roll in from the Pacific at night and burn off in the summer sunshine, keeping the region cooler than you would expect for its latitude, and help produce some of the best Californian wines. Napa wines have the concentration and structure to age magnificently.
