    Shining golden yellow colour. A controlled reserved scent of caramelised fruits. In the palate it offers wonderfully appealing flavours mixed between roasted almonds, hints of chamomile and lemon sherbet. The finish shows off this superb vineyards Grand Cru origins with layered terror tension, a feeling of grip and great length. Still very youthful and whilst delicious today will keep for many years more.

    So we began with his 2012 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. It has a very attractive bouquet with subtle scents of pear skin, apple blossom and citrus fruit, although I hope it develops a little more vigor by the time of bottling. The palate is very gras with fine acidity, quite phenolic with a weighty, spicy finish that needs a little more nervosite.

    A discreet if not invisible touch of wood frames the ripe aromas of pear, apple, green tea and white flower scents. There is impressive richness and muscle to the large-scaled flavors that display plenty of minerality onto the very generous but not heavy finish thanks to the firm acid spine that maintains the balance. This should be approachable young but reward up to a decade of cellaring. (91-94)/2019+

Furthermore, they are not afraid to experiment, and are always evolving the viticulture and winemaking style with small innovations. The estate has eschewed the fashion of using new oak barrels to age the wines, preferring seasoned casks which act as an “elevage” vessel rather than imparting barrel flavours. Region

Corton

The Grands Crus of Corton, a red made from Pinot Noir, and Corton Charlemagne, a white made from Chardonnay are shared between Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix Serrigny and Pernand Vergelesses. The vines for both are planted on the hillsides underneath the plateau of Corton's woodland forest. The majorityof Pinot Noir is planted in the southern and eastern sector where the soil is naturally rich with red iron clay giving additional body and power. Overall, the wines from these areas tend to be fruit forward and fleshy with a balance of round edges and fine concentration.
