  • Goedhuis, January 2014

Deep dark purple colour, this is slightly reserved on the nose, but there is an explosion of flavours in the mouth. A wine of great harmony. An initial attack of raspberries and strawberries then develops into sensational summer pudding fruits. This has real volume and exudes class. Delicious.

  • Neal Martin, December 2013, Score: 92-94

The 2012 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet with wild strawberry and redcurrant scents, forest floor and wild mint that expands in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, good acidity and plush blackberry and cassis fruit encasing the finish that is reminiscent of the Bonnes-Mares. Good length here - this is very fine, though not quite reaching for the stars.

  • Burghound, January 2014, Score: 92-94

Here the wood is sufficiently prominent that it fights somewhat with the otherwise attractively layered aromas of elegant and very fresh plum, wild red berries and plenty of earth character. There is an ample dose of minerality to the velvety and palate coating middle weight plus flavors that display fine power and excellent detail, all wrapped in a long finish where the shaping tannins are very ripe. Drink 2024+

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2014, Score: 19

Slightly dull, deep ruby. Very sumptuous nose – really gorgeous! Fully open and subtle and seductive. Dryish on the end but hints of liquorice and red fruits. Really very impressive. Intense charge of fruit. Vibrant finish. Fabulous. Drink 2020-2042

This substantial Gevrey Chambertin domaine is under the guardianship of a collaborative family team: parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four 1ers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War, with ideal conditions maintaining perfect temperatures for Philippe’s preferred two-year élevage in cask. The wines are ripe, concentrated, and often earthy and textured. They offer terrific value, particularly in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.Read less

Chambertin Clos de Bèze

Gevrey-Chambertin has more Grand Crus than any other appellation in Burgundy. Unusually wines from Clos de Beze may simply call themselves Chambertin, which is an indicator of the quality of these vineyards. One of the most complete of all the Grand Crus, rivalling the revered Romanee-Conti, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze wines are the pinnacle of Pinot Noir - fragrant, powerfully complex and intense.
