  • Burghound, January 2013, Score: 92-94

(from a .50 ha parcel with vines that range from 20 to 60 years of age with the average beingabout 25 years old). Reduction renders the nose impossible to properly evaluate but there is good freshness and verve to the broad-shouldered, powerful and tautly muscular flavors yet the robust character is softened by the same very fine-grained tannins that all of the prior wines display. I very much like the quality of the underlying material and while the tannins may be refined, they’re also dense and this will clearly require extended cellar time to arrive at its full potential. Region

Grands Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Much more compact and homogenous than the neighbouring Echezeaux, the Grands Echézeaux vineyards are owned by around twenty producers - very modest in Burgundian terms. The most celebrated producers include Domaines de la Romanee Conti, d'Eugenie and Mongeard-Mugneret. These fine wines are richly complex yet balanced and have enormous ageing potential.
