Very slightly smoky, and peppery. Savoury and juicy on the palate. Firm, dense but lively too. A touch of char undermines it a little for me. Drink 2016-2026

Region

Grands Echézeaux

One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Much more compact and homogenous than the neighbouring Echezeaux, the Grands Echézeaux vineyards are owned by around twenty producers - very modest in Burgundian terms. The most celebrated producers include Domaines de la Romanee Conti, d'Eugenie and Mongeard-Mugneret. These fine wines are richly complex yet balanced and have enormous ageing potential.
