Burghound, January 2012, Score: 91-94
A highly spiced nose of cassis, red currant, plum and warm earth complements well the equally ripe and notably earthy medium weight flavors that possess a succulent palate impression as there is ample dry extract present. This is really quite powerful with fine focus and detail to the harmonious finish. As the typical Echézeaux goes this is a relatively big but not inelegant wine if for no other reason than the tannins are finely rendered.Drink: 2022+

The Lamarche family have been in Vosne Romanée since 1740. Over the years and through multiple marriages, they were able to expand their earthly possessions and increase their vineyard holdings to include various parcels and plots across 11 appellations. Their most famous vineyard, which is also their flagship, is La Grande Rue, a 1.65 hectare plots in Vosne Romanée which became an official grand cru in 1992. Today the domaine is run by François Lamarche and his delightfully cheeky wife, Marie-Blanche. Their daughter, Nicole, and their niece, Nathalie, help with the vineyards and winemaking. More modern in thinking, they age all of their village, premier cru and grand cru wines in 100% new oak barrels.Read less
Region
Echézeaux
One of two Grand Crus within the Flagey-Echezeaux area right in the heart of the Cote de Nuits. Relatively large and consequently diverse for a Grand Cru, the better Echézeaux wines undoubtedly deserve this status. As always in Burgundy vineyard location and grower is critical.
