Goedhuis, December 2011
A wine of considerable intensity in both its deep brooding, dark berry fruit flavours and finely masculine tannins. Great Clos Vougeot should focus on the natural power of the fruit that the vineyard provides and this is very clearly expressed in this top quality 2010.

Burghound, January 2013, Score: 94
(50+ year old vines). An earthy, pure and magnificently complex nose of a ripe combination of wildred berry fruit, discreet spice and earth notes plus an undertone of sauvage is trimmed in discreet but not invisible wood treatment. There is also plenty of earth on the rich, full-bodied and overtly powerful flavors that possess excellent volume. This is a very serious example of the appellation as the supporting tannins are decidedly prominent, indeed to the point that the strikingly long finish is distinctly austere yet there is no detectable rusticity. A classic Clos de Vougeot that will require at least 15 plus years of cellar time. Drink 2025+

A discreet touch of wood spice adds aromatic breadth to the earthy and reserved red berry fruit nose that also offers up a suggestion of the sauvage that carries over to the rich, powerful and admirably concentrated big-bodied flavors that culminate in an impressively long, energetic and youthfully austere finish. This is a big but not rustic example that will require plenty of cellar time. Drink: 2024+.Notes: 50+ year old vines.Comments: don't miss!

Jancis Robinson, January 2012, Score: 16.5+
Dark ruby. Subtly scented. But a bit brutal in terms of tannins and acidity. This may mellow but it's not much fun at the moment. Drink 2018-2028

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less
