  • Goedhuis, July 2015

This superbly structured 2010 balances power with the classic charm of Margaux. Ample layers of sweet, red berry fruit flesh out the palate while its velvety tannins carry through to its notable finish.

  • Robert Parker, February 2013, Score: 92

With a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, De Luze, who is the president of the Alliance des Cru Bourgeois, has produced a dense, ruby/purple-colored wine exhibiting notes of forest floor, spring flowers, blueberry, black raspberry and cassis. This wine looks even more impressive than the 2009, which was another terrific sleeper of the vintage. A superb cru bourgeois that behaves like a classified growth, this brilliant wine can be drunk early on because of its sweet tannin and low acidity, or cellared for 15 or more years. Bravo! This is an absolutely sensational wine from proprietor Frederick De Luze, from his beautiful estate in Soussans in the northern tier of Margaux. A member of the Alliance des Cru Bourgeois du Medoc.

  • Decanter, April 2011, Score: 15.5

Good elegant fruit, nice tannins, quite a polished style. Drink 2013-17.

  • Jancis Robinson, April 2011, Score: 16

Crisp and dry but not drying and very clean and brisk. Tighter than most Margaux but correct. Like a young racehorse. Drink 2016-2026

Producer

Château Paveil de Luze

Château Paveil de Luze is a small property located on deep, well-drained gravel soils which are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. A charmer, its polished wines mature early and are an excellent choice for the impatient drinker.

Region

Margaux

Plump, silky and seductive are the words often used to describe wines from Margaux. Because of their style, they tend to be user friendly and more approachable when young. This is in part due to its terroir which is comprised of the thinnest soil as well as the highest proportion of chunky gravel in all of the Médoc. It drains well but also is it more susceptible to vintage variation. Margaux wines tend to have the highest proportions of Merlot within the core of the Médoc further adding to their ample roundness and openness. Margaux is home to the largest number of classified growths including its namesake first growth, Château Margaux, as well as third growths, Palmer and d'Issan.
