  • Burghound, January 2011, Score: 88-90

A ripe and spicy mix of nuanced red and blue fruit plus plum aromas merges into fresh, intense and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors where the supporting tannins are much finer, all wrapped in a balanced, pure and persistent finish. This is a Vosne of finesse and delicacy.Drink: 2014+

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is familiar to Burgundy lovers the world over as one of the most sought-after domaines of Vosne-Romanée, and indeed, the whole of Burgundy. The history of Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is one that perfectly encapsulates the evolution of the region. Founded in 1858, the property spent most of the last century as Domaine Robert Arnoux, named for Pascal Lachaux’s father-in-law who sadly passed in 1995. Pascal then took over the reins and made substantial improvements, both in the vineyard and in cellar, sealing the transformation of the Domaine with the addition of his own name. Today, the Domaine is run by Pascal’s son Charles Lachaux, who, in the words of Burghounds Allen Meadows “is on his way to becoming a legitimate super-star as his innovative and obsessive vineyard work is second to none.” With Lalou Bize-Leroy of the famed Domaine Leroy as his mentor, it is no surprise that the Charles's painstaking approach is yielding such acclaim. As the Wine Advocate’s William Kelley says: “Every vintage seems to bring (Charles) Lachaux one step closer to realizing his objective, to paraphrase the words of his leading inspiration, Lalou Bize-Leroy, he might legitimately be content, albeit never satisfied, with the results of all his efforts. This is an immensely promising domaine, with one of the brightest futures ahead of any in Burgundy, and readers should start paying attention.”Read less

Latricières Chambertin

Latricières-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus in the Gevrey-Chambertin district on the Côte de Nuits, producing red wine from Pinot Noir. It is located on a gentle slope in the far south of Gevrey-Chambertin next to the Morey-St-Denis border. The vineyard lies on white oolite soils, sheltered from the winds and hail by the woods of the Montagne de la Combe Grisard to the North West. When young these wines are bursting with strawberry and raspberry flavours, as well as violets and gamey undertones. Compared to other Grand Cru Gevrey, Latricières-Chambertin is not ultra-powerful and seems to exude a sublime lacy quality.
