  • Goedhuis, January 2011

A very silky opulent wine which coats the mouth with its natural richness and volume. Undoubtedly, one of the cellar crowd pleasers and the strongly spiced dark berry fruit flavours make this incredibly moreish. A very complete wine.

  • Neal Martin, January 2011, Score: 94-96

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. The Boudots is less expressive on the nose than the Ronciers, a little more taciturn with darker, more broody fruit. There is a hint of grapefruit mixing with the dark berries. The palate is very well structured with great depth and precision, the mineralité showing through more than on the NSG Ronciers, very precise and focused towards the finish that demonstrates great persistency. Lovely.

  • Burghound, January 2012, Score: 93

In 2009, the nose is more Vosne than Nuits with ample amounts of spice to the very ripe liqueur of cassis and red cherries that gives way to highly complex, intense and concentrated medium weight plus flavors that culminate in a rich, suave and superbly long finish. This is right at the limit of what I personally prefer in terms of ripeness but many will find this to be highly seductive. Drink: 2019.Notes: from 70+ year old vines.Comments: outstanding!

While the tannins are not quite as fine as those of the Roncières, they are finer than usual and overall, this is really quite classy.Drink: 2019+.Notes: from 70+ year old vines.Comments: sweet spot outstanding!

Lots of fresh fruit but a nice savoury edge to the aroma. Creamy blueberry soft fruit but there'senough energy to lift it beyond sweetness. Smooth, supple and long. (JH)

One of the most famous names in Vosne Romanée, Domaine Grivot dates back to the nineteenth century. Over the years and marriages, the domaine grew to include vineyards in notable appellations such as Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Richebourg. Etienne, the fifth generation of the family to run the estate, returned to Burgundy from work experience in California in the 1980s. He eventually took over from his father completely in 1990. Over time and through experience, Etienne has created his own style of wine, which many tasters consider to be growing in elegance. The wines remain powerful and rich, true vins de garde, which usually need several years of cellaring to soften and develop. Those patient enough to wait know that the wines of Etienne Grivot are exceptional. In 2012 his children Mathilde and Hubert joined him at the family domaine, and the three share a united vision. It is a harmonious and collaborative family team. They eschew the trend for analysing every drop of juice, and pay much more attention to the vegetative cycle of their vines. The year’s weather conditions will dictate how the team handles the grapes in the cellar far more than the complex chemical analyses which comes back from the lab.Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
