Olivier really felt that the terroir shined through on the 2006s and particularly with Clos des Fôrets. A bit more structured than Clos de l'Arlot, though it still offered as much fruit. Itsminerality and acidity adds some uplifting freshness on the finish. Drink 2011 - 2022.

  • Burghound, January 2009, Score: 91

As one would expect, this is quite similar to the Petit Plets aromatically with more deeply pitched and riper fruit aromas that hint at the sauvage while blending into rich, round, concentrated, robust and textured medium full flavors that are delicious, powerful and serious, all wrapped in a finish where the firm structure arrives with a rush. This should age well over the next decade.Drink: 2014+.Notes: from vines planted in the early 1950s.Comments: outstanding!

  • Jancis Robinson, January 2008, Score: 17.5

Much darker colour than the Clos de l'Arlot. Heady, seductive, gentle. Seems almost more delicatethan the regular Nuits-St-Georges Premier Cru. Very easy. Though there are some pretty drying tannins on the finish. Drink 2011 - 2018.

  • Producer Note, January 2008

Clos des Forets 2006: Despite still being closed on the nose there are concentrated flavours of black fruits, pears and chocolate in the mouth and a tight texture with freshly, well-ripened tannins. It needs time to reveal itself fully.

Its history as a domaine, however, stretches back far into the Burgundian annals passing through the Vienot and Belin dynasties before AXA’s acquisition. The domaine’s recent history has been shaped by the influence of Jean-Pierre de Smet who ran the domaine for almost two decades before Christian Seely took over direction. In 2014 Christian installed Géraldine Godot as technical manager and winemaker. A native Burgundian, she is a qualified microbiologist and oenologist, and looks set for a bright future at this Côte de Nuits estate. The domaine favours whole bunch fermentation, seeking to produce wines with refinement and finesse. (Not to be confused with Domaine Arlaud in Morey St Denis.)Read less

Region

Nuits Saint Georges

The second largest town after Beaune, Nuits St. Georges is known for ample wines that have textured tannins and rich fruit. Unlike other famous Côte de Nuits villages, it has no Grand Crus but does have a handful of exceptional premier cru vineyards such as Clos de l'Arlot, Les Pruliers and AuxMurgers. Its wines can be occasionally rustic, and this sets them apart from many of the more northern appellations as well as from the neighbouring Côte de Beaune whose wines (apart from Pommard) tend to be less structured and more fruit forward. This is no doubt due to a slightly increased presence of clay especially on the Primeaux-Prissey area of the appellation. Notable producers include Domaine de l'Arlot, Jean Grivot and Meo-Camuzet.
