  • Goedhuis, November 2010

    A naturally rich wine that is well-endowed with layers of red cherries, blackberries and chocolate. Its round, velvety tannins flesh out the palate while its pronounced minerality adds freshness and elegance. It finishes long on notes of cassis and spice. A hedonistic and profound wine.

  • Decanter, March 2011, Score: 18.5

    Handsome nose, ripe sweetness, smoke. Generous, well-proportioned; tasty tannins, flamboyant length.

  • Jancis Robinson, November 2010, Score: 16.5++

    Mid crimson. Mildly majestic, if that is possible. Certainly not dramatic. Unusually sweet start and then medium weight and fine tannins. I think I would recommend someone to splash out on one of the more emphatic Hermitages, even if it would cost a lot more...

Region

Hermitage

Hermitage is a region that produces both red and white wines. Its famous red is made from 100% Syrah while the white is produced from Marsanne and/or Roussanne. A sweeter and very rare white wine is also produced from grapes that have been dried on straw before being pressed. A slighter warmer micro-climate enables Hermitage's red wines to have more ripeness and structure than Côte Rôtie which adds additional power and longevity. As a result, they are usually the most ‘masculine' styled reds in all of the northern Rhône.
