Storing your Wine

Private Reserves Ltd provides exemplary conditions for the storage of fine wines at extremely competitive prices.

These perfect storage conditions combined with high-level security and exceptional personal service have ensured that Private Reserves has become a major dedicated wine storage company, holding wines from collectors and wine lovers worldwide for over twenty years.

Private Reserves you can manage your cellar on-line or speak to one of our team.  The website provides you with a complete list of your wines, together with recommended drinking dates and tasting notes, where available, from the world’s foremost wine writers.  Valuations are up-dated quarterly by Liv-ex, the independent wine exchange.

Storage Conditions

Our cellars are at Cert Octavian in Corsham in Southern England in the disused quarries that provided the limestone used in the building of the outlying villages of Bath.  When mining ended in 1920 the site was taken over by the Ministry of Defence who refurbished the underground mines at huge cost for the storage of explosives and ammunition.

In the late 1980s, the site was bought by Cert Octavian. Realising the potential for wine storage they invested a further £1.5 million to create the perfect conditions for the ageing of fine wines. All wines at Corsham are stored 100ft below ground at a computer-controlled constant temperature of 13°C and a humidity level of 72%-77%.

Security

Private Reserves’ facilities are extremely secure.  There are only two entrances to the storage area and removing more than a single case is only possible via a mechanical train.  Furthermore the whole storage area is alarmed and there is 24-hour security on site.

Another aspect of security to consider when choosing a wine storage facility is that, since 1975, a number of wine companies have gone into liquidation or receivership and customers have had their wines seized by the administrator.  Our separation system ensures that whatever fiscal eventualities may befall Private Reserves Ltd, Goedhuis & Co or indeed Cert Octavian, our customers’ wines will be safe.

For additional security when asking for delivery we require written, faxed or e-mailed confirmation.

In Bond or Duty Paid

Wines can be stored both In Bond and UK Duty Paid by our independent storage company, Private Reserves Ltd, at a cost of £9.50 per case ex VAT per annum. On requesting delivery, VAT and delivery charges will be invoiced at cost.  If the wine is stored In Bond duty also becomes payable.  Current duty rates are £19.26 per case of 12 bottles for still wine and VAT at 15%.  These are subject to change under government regulations.

"I have bought wine from Goedhuis & Co and stored wine with their sister operation Private Reserves for nearly twenty years.  It is a joy to work with these people. Their attention to detail, flow of priceless information and immense knowledge of their wines is desperately impressive.  In a world where wine is treated increasingly as a commodity it is so refreshing to communicate with a finely-tuned team who love the subject as much as I do.  Private Reserves is one of the best storage facilities in the country (Cert Octavian is a beacon of excellence in this field), but it is the background knowledge and support from Goedhuis that makes this the ideal company to look after and advise you at all times on this most wondrous of life's luxuries.”  Matthew Jukes, (of expertwine.com).
