Oldenburg Vineyards

Oldenburg Vineyards is a premium boutique South African winery, perched high-up in the Banghoek Valley above Stellenbosch. Here, winemaker Nic van Aarde pursues his mission to ‘let the terroir talk’ and produce balanced, elegant wines from the puzzle-piece vineyard parcels located on and around the central Rondekop Hill. Making a positive impact on both the local community and the local environment were key founding principles of Oldenburg Vineyards and inform every aspect of their winemaking and operational practices.

MORE ABOUT OLDENBURG VINEYARDS

Oldenburg, as we know it today, was established in 2003 by Western Cape-native Adrian Vanderspuy, a former financial investor with a long-term ambition to produce premium wines, who also spent much of his youth on the neighbouring farm. Upon his return, Adrian set about replanting the neglected vineyards, some of which had existed since the early 1960s, culminating in his first vintage in 2007. Today, the estate is led by head winemaker, Nic Van Aarde, who oversaw the completion of Oldenburg’s newly built cellar at the start of 2019. Having gained a BSc in Oenology and Viticulture (as well as having a mother who once worked for award-winning winery Nederburg), Nic quickly earned a reputation as one of South Africa’s leading winemakers, working at a variety of top wineries in the Stellenbosch region, including Warwick Winery. We are delighted to have been in direct partnership with Oldenburg Vineyards since 2022.

Pricing

  • IN BOND prices exclude UK Duty and VAT. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries. Duty and VAT must be paid before delivery can take place.

  • RETAIL prices include UK Duty and VAT. Wines for UK delivery can only be purchased this way.

Additional Information

  • Duty Paid wines have been removed from Bond and cannot subsequently be returned to Bond.  VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. These wines must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • En Primeur wines can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.

Tax status

  • IB: In Bond. These wines have had no UK Duty or VAT paid on them. Wines can be purchased In Bond for storage in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse, or for export to non-EU countries.

  • DP: Duty Paid. Wines for immediate UK delivery must be purchased Duty Paid. VAT is payable on Duty Paid wines. Wines which have been removed from Bond cannot subsequently be returned to Bond. They must remain Duty Paid but can be purchased as such for storage subject to VAT.

  • EP: En Primeur. These wines are lying in the Domaines’ cellars until shipping. They can only be purchased In Bond. On arrival in the UK these wines can either be stored In Bond in Private Reserves or another bonded warehouse or delivered directly to you. When you decide to take delivery, Duty and VAT at the prevailing rate become payable.
