In last week’s Moneyweek Matthew Jukes highlighted a few different French domaines that he feels make “great inexpensive wine year in, year out” – no easy feat given the unpredictability of European weather. We were delighted to find our best-selling Ch St Baillon Réserve du Château Côtes de Provence Rosé included in his recommendations.

Ch d’Issan 2016 | £570 per 12 | “This is a beautiful D’Issan” 93-95 poins Neal Martin

for-blog

At Goedhuis & Co we adore the wines made by Emmanuel Cruse of Chateau d’Issan. His wines are always among the top five wines made in the region of Margaux, and a joy to drink. This wine is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon / 36% Merlot. The 2016 has an exquisite bouquet, so characteristic of Margaux, a soft, silky texture and beautiful purity. There is an underlying power, yet the wine remains subtle and gentle on the palate. The word seamless springs to mind and I thoroughly agree with Neal Martin when he says “this is a beautiful d’Issan”.

Ch Cheval Blanc 2016 | £3,200 per 6 IB | “It is an absolutely stunning wine in every way” 96-99 points, Antonio Galloni

This thoroughbred of St Emilion, Ch Cheval Blanc, was released this morning at £3,200 per 6 In Bond. Cheval Blanc has made two excellent wines this year, as 2016 saw the return of their second wine, Le Petit Cheval. The Grand Vin blew us away when we tasted it in the newly renovated tasting room. The Cabernet Franc component provides a wonderful line of distinction and the Merlot adds a delicious degree of sweetness and volume. The tightly knit tannins provide greater depth and persistence on the finish.
