Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is one of the sparkling treasures of Champagne. The blend, as ever, remains a secret, as does the volume produced. But what we do know is that Pol Roger make this tribute cuvée only when the wine is exactly as they know Sir Winston Churchill would have enjoyed. He once declared: “My tastes are simple, I am easily satisfied with the best.”
The 2006 is the sixteenth release of this cuvée, following on from the 2002 and 2004 where demand quickly outstripped supply. It is a superlative example of its vintage: the fruit is luxurious in its richness, so characteristic of the supple expressiveness resulting from the vintage’s warm September, all enrobed in decadent autolytic complexity. It is quite irresistibly drinkable, with superb length.
Quantity of the 2006 is extremely limited, so please let us know as soon as possible if you would like a case of this magnificent Champagne.

An intense golden colour is matched by a highly perfumed nose combining the luxurious concentration of ripe nectarines, pineapple and grilled nuts. Structured autolytic tones of ‘pain perdu’ support the fine, persistent mousse. The palate is simultaneously decadent and nuanced, with hints of spice, flowers, and stone fruits. This is full-bodied and intense grand cru Champagne with a long, complex, and irresistible finish. Luxuriate in its charms. Drink 2016 – 2025, Goedhuis & Co
Deep with impressively lively and tiny bead. Very intense with a fresh mint note. Round and magnificent. Excellent freshness. Impossible to spit. Beautiful balance. Satin-textured. Not as cigar-fumed as some vintages! Jancis Robinson MW 18.5 points
